2021 Volkswagen Taigun – The People’s SUV from India | FIRST DRIVE

The 2021 Volkswagen Taigun is a subcompact crossover SUV (B-segment) manufactured by the German automaker Volkswagen since 2021. Manufactured in India by VW and destined for the Indian market, the Taigun is based on the Volkswagen T-Cross. This vehicle is running for a @World Car TV Award.

The Taigun 1.0 starts at $15,000 and tops off at $22,000 – the version I drove was manual with the virtual cluster and all features available. That costs $20,000.
The 1.5 TSI has a manual and a DSG (dual clutch) option. And that is priced at a tad over $20,000 and $24,000 respectively. Both have auto options. But on the 1.0 its a torque conv. Not the DSG. For more car information about cars in India follow: @sidpantanker

How many plastic engine parts?

Dr.Krishna prasad Yadav

Try 1.5 dsg…race car it is..😃

Having seen reviews of the Taos, I would say the 1.5TSI DSG is apt as a commuter car for the masses in the US. It costs up to $30K in some parts of India, but actually the company would only make $15-16k out of selling the car, the rest of it is just taxes. That’s why you can notice missing hood insulation, semi-boot insulation, drum brakes, hard plastics, etc. It’s main competition offers a ton more features but had a below average rating in crash test safety.

Try the 1.5L Automatic model

Not a T-Roc, a T-Cross. T-Roc is about Golf sized and has AWD, this is a smaller car based on the polo and is only FWD. also a much cheaper one. My mom paid like 35k euro for a T-Roc.
A cool review, I myself wouldn’t even care about looking at the T-cross, this made a review of a car like this more interesting. Nice that you had a chance to experience this Lauren!

“Taigun” I read that 10 times thinking I was having a stroke before I realized it wasn’t “Tiguan”.

Sanchay Narain

They have chosen a very wrong name for it actually, here in India Volkswagen themselves have made blunders in advertisements mentioning Tiguan as Taigun and Taigun as Tiguan 🤣🤣 forget the mistake people make while typing….

Antoine Lee-Thomas

The last thing the U.S. needs is another crossover already oversaturated like trans fat in a full-sized bag of potato chips in a grocery store aisle.

I will admit I like the taillights. I don’t know why VW USA didn’t do that for the MK8 Golf GTI and MK8 Golf R. Maybe they’ll do it for the MK8 Jetta GLI. To be fair to that vehicle’s engine, the U.S. has had a 1.0L engine in the defunct Ford Focus SFE trim. I’m sure that car’s engine was just as gutless. LOL!

At least in India, they are all about that good manual transmission.

Sandile Majiya

Right hand drive, India is driving on the right hand side same as here in South Africa.

Andrei Pretorius

I wish this was available in the US. The T-Cross is amazing. I would have definitely gone for it instead of my ecosport

shailesh Tate

In comparison to indian market need and a German product, this car really stands out. Fulfills all those driving dynamics matching indian conditions. Performance mileage drive quality is just far better than competition. I Own a Top line 1 litre Automatic variant. Good review and video quality.

Bob Davis

“This is not a race car”! lol Thumbs and feet up review, Lauren!

Bob Davis

Reminds me a bit of the Ford EcoSport.

Bob Davis

A GOLF wagon! REALLY super Vee Dub and Review, Lauren lol Humor in your review. Great little car.

Sripathi Bhat

The 1.5 DSG version which is top end model of this car in India is like a sports car. It is out of world experience for people who can’t afford Ferrari. 😀

Ransil Fernandes

@Anirudh 😮😮😮

1.5 tsi is entry level engine in their market

Abhay Singh

Top spec Taigun in Indian market gets a 1.5L DSG gearbox which is fun to drive and extremely powerful.

Hobbies, Car and Bike

Got one with 1.5 liter engine, the power is apt and looks from outside are just beautiful.

Mark Shattis

Looks like you had fun with this one Lauren which made it even more fun to watch! ☺️
Actually a nice looking vehicle! Just needs more “umph”. Great review!

Daniel Gross

The working class in the United States 🇺🇸 could use a $15k vehicle for transportation

tommy cash

Are the pedals reversed too?

Car Coach Reports

Thankfully no the gas pedal is still on the right and the clutch is still all the way to the left

dave palmerton

That is not a bad looking vehicle. I could get used to the lack of amenities, but would have to have more power.

In India’s congested roads, anything that does 0-60mph in under 10 seconds feels like a rocket lol. We have the 1.5 for that, which I think would be just about ample to cruise on your highways.

Sidhant Shori

There’s a 150HP version which would probably work a lot better for you.

That’s what I was thinking.

Car Coach Reports

It looked like a VW Taos. It wasn’t a bad vehicle at all. And probably a wonderful city vehicle for India.
